The agency reported the suspect, identified as Brandon Zakowski, also allegedly swiped a pair of jeans, some shoes and a backpack at the Medford Center Sears Wednesday, Sept. 9. That was about two hours prior to the sunglasses theft. Police have posted pictures of that theft on their Facebook page. Medford police Lt. Mike Budreau said a loss prevention agent at Sears spotted Zakowski's alleged theft just before 1 p.m. when he was putting on a new pair of shoes, swapping them out with the ones he wore into the store. Budreau said the suspect then went into a fitting room, put on a new pair of jeans and tried to leave the store without paying for them. Store security chased the man outside and he was last seen running northbound on Bennett Street toward some green apartments, where he reportedly jumped over a wall. Investigators say the man was at it again about 3 p.m., this time at the Sunglass Hut in Rogue Valley Mall. Zakowski allegedly resorted to the same tactics, this time swiping a $190 pair of Versace sunglasses he replaced with a cheaper pair before walking out of the store. "The theft occurred when (the clerk) was very busy with customers," Budreau said. Store officials checked store surveillance after discovering the theft and contacted police, who said they recognized Zakowski as the suspect in the earlier Sears theft.
