Californians romp past RV Rebels MOUNT VERNON, Wash. - The Gold All-Stars of Ventura, Calif., pounded out 13 hits on the way to a 10-3 victory over the Rogue Valley Rebels at the U12 girls national softball tournament on Wednesday. The Rebels, now 1-1 in the tournament, play at noon today in the double-elimination event. Ryan Rolls went 4-for-4 with a triple to lead the California team at the plate. Tiffany Schmelzer went 2-for-3 for the Rebels, while Simone Hubbard was 1-for-3 with two RBIs. The Rebels trailed 10-0 after four innings before scoring three runs in the fifth. Baseball AMERICAN LEGION STATE TOURNAMENT - At Corvallis, the Roseburg Doc Stewarts opened up the AAA American Legion baseball state tournament with a 3-1 loss to Southridge. Brandon Rupp threw a four hitter at Roseburg, singled twice in four attempts and scored once. He struck out four and walked two, advancing Southridge to a second round game against the defending state champion Klamath Falls Falcons. Roseburg takes on Century. The Falcons routed Century Bertsch Excavation (Hillsboro) out of the first round, 12-2, in a shortened 61/2-inning game.
