April 11 are among the top attractions of the 2005-06 season announced Thursday by the Craterian Ginger Rogers Theater in Medford. The CGRT’s ninth season includes 23 touring shows, a locally produced dance festival, the third annual GingerBread Jubilee, plus two free community events. Several area arts groups also present programs at the theater. The season opens Sept. 28 with the Tony Award-winning "Will Rogers Follies" and wraps up May 5 with Los Hombres Calientes. In addition, Craterian Performances, the presenting arm of the nonprofit theater, offers music, dance, comedy, drama, musical theater, spectacle and family programs in an annual season that runs fall through spring. Advertisement "It’s purposely eclectic," Craterian Executive Director Stephen McCandless says. In addition to the shows it presents, the CGRT serves as home to partners Rogue Opera, Rogue Valley Chorale, Rogue Valley Symphony, Ballet Rogue, Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon and Rogue Valley Youth Choruses, all of which present their own programs. Trying to coordinate those groups’ seasons with traveling shows booked by Craterian Performances is an intricate challenge. "It’s a bit of a process," McCandless says. Ticket prices don’t look much different from this season, with tickets reaching $58 for "The Full Monty," "Thoroughly Modern Millie," Ben Vereen, "The Mikado" and "Oklahoma!," but topping out at $30 or less for most other shows. Exceptions are the Moscow Ballet, with tickets from $32 to $38 and "NEWSical," with tickets from $29 to $35. Youth tickets for most shows begin around $13 to $16. Fans of dance can look forward to Chicago’s Jump Rhythm Jazz Project with choreographer/dancer Billy Siegenfeld on Oct. 1. The acclaimed Moscow Ballet will perform a world premiere of "The Greatest Love Stories of All Time" on Oct. 27. Hubbard Street 2 will present impassioned dance Oct. 29, and our region’s dancers and choreographers will perform at the juried festival "It’s About Dance!" on Nov. 5. Nine of the nation’s hippest young dancers will take the stage in Tap Kids on March 18. Music offerings include the chamber orchestra Camerata Nordica on Oct. 15; country star Patty Loveless Nov. 15; and Los Hombres Calientes, featuring Jason Marsalis, Bill Summers and Irvin Mayfield, on May 5. Christmas with the Trail Band will return on Dec. 3-4. In the hard-to-pin-down category are Portland’s wildly-inventive Imago Theatre: FROGZ for kids and adults on Oct. 23, and Luma: Theatre of Light, a surreal world of light, color and motion on Jan. 14. "Snowflake" features actor/dancer/clown Gale LaJoye on Nov. 13, and Theatreworks USA returns with "Curious George," a Broadway show for the 4- to 9-year-old set on April 23. The off-Broadway hit "NEWSical: All the Stuff That’s Fit to Spoof" takes aim at the news and is constantly updated. It visits Jan. 21. The acclaimed Acting Company will bring "The Three Musketeers" on March 14. The Carl Rosa Opera — Britain’s oldest — will present Gilbert and Sullivan’s "The Mikado" April 25. In the back-by-popular-demand category: the Celtic music of Leahy on Jan. 30, Japanese choreographed drumming of Portland Taiko Feb. 4 and the Big Band sounds of The Glenn Miller Orchestra on April 27. A free community event is the interactive Viva Voce Community Sing-Along, a free event featuring Jackson County winners of a high school solo music competition on Jan. 6. The third annual GingerBread Jubilee will include a gala auction on Nov. 18, followed by two days of public viewing Nov. 19-20, when all of the elaborate gingerbread creations can be appreciated.
