Panthers clipped in Coach Bob finale Saturday Apr 1, 2017 at 2:00 AM GOODYEAR, Ariz. — South Medford’s Josh Melton stole home in the top of the sixth inning to tie the contest but Libertyville (Ill.) capitalized on an error in the bottom of the frame and came away with a 2-1 win in the final day of the Coach Bob Invitational on Friday. Following Melton’s one-out double in the top of the sixth, he stole third base and Clint Campbell drew a walk to put runners on the corners for the Panthers. With little happening offensively, South Medford called for a delayed double steal. Campbell’s steal at second base created an opportunity for Melton to take home plate, which he did, knotting the score at 1-all. Libertyville then loaded the bases with two outs. The club put the ball in play and the error happened during the exchange from infielder Jaalen Owens to Campbell the shortstop, allowing Nick Angel to score and give Libertyville a 2-1 lead. Starting pitcher Kobey Charlton tossed five innings for the Panthers (4-3), allowing one unearned run on just two hits and a pair of walks. South Medford finished the event with a 3-1 record.
