It is nothing more than a sales tax put on the consumer, i.e., you. The Oregon government pretends that you have a choice by allegedly letting you vote for a tax increase. In my opinion, any tax put on the people by government is like the schoolyard bully taking your lunch money. The bully takes the money through intimidation. Once you succumb (vote, make the decision) to hand over your lunch money, the bully will continue to take more and more and more until you have no more to give. The proposed corporate tax increase, i.e., sales tax, will eliminate 38,000 private-sector jobs. The proposed tax will add 18,000 public service jobs. The proposed tax is to be used to expand government while eliminating private-sector jobs. There is no such thing as a fair tax. The term “fair tax” is a divisive tactic to set groups of people against each other and get them believing one group or another is not paying their “fair share of taxes.” Government officials are determined to get their sales tax (your money) one way or another. Randall Hale Medford Aghast and upset I was aghast and extremely upset upon reading "Banned Books" Aug. 6. Of all cities in Jackson County, Ashland is considered liberal and broad-minded. Some plays we have seen have pushed the envelope of the comfort levels of many patrons. But, most of them set out to show struggles, accomplishment and pure entertainment of the world around or before us! I hope Judi Honoré continues to educate through making "banned books" available to anyone interested. And I hope this ridiculousness goes away! Pamela Heuser Medford A five-star show If you don't use "funky" in connection with the Randall Theatre, it probably means you haven't been there. The delightful Broadway musical "A Chorus Line," playing now at the Randall, is one we recommend. The little theater is on the corner of Front and Third streets, in Medford, run by a nonprofit community acting group. The Randall seats probably no more than about 65 in a bleacher-type auditorium with a tiny stage. "A Chorus Line" runs every Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. through Aug. 21. We just showed up at show time and bought tickets, but it might be smarter to go online at randalltheatre.com or call their box office at 541-632-3258 (leave your name and phone number and they will call you back). This all-volunteer group of actors and staff have created an amazing professional production. We give it five stars.
