Phoenix girls team missing soccer balls Phoenix High School girls soccer team is sharpening up its game in preparation for a Saturday playoff game with Glide. But there's a problem: Somebody stole their soccer balls. Coach Dan Sporrer said his team's assistant coach loaded a bag with 16 to 18 soccer balls into the back of his pickup at about 7 a.m. Saturday at his home near Bear Creek Park in Medford. He went back into his house and when he returned, the balls were gone. Sporrer said it was a particularly inopportune time for the theft. "They struck when the bank was full," he said. "It was our last (league) game and we thought we'd have a lot of kids there, so we really loaded up the bag." The stolen balls, valued at about $500, were mostly manufactured by Umbro and are marked with the letters "PHS." Sporrer asks that anyone with information about the theft (or anyone interested in donating balls) call PHS athletic director Pat Halpin at 535-1526.
