Surely they are not going to "rebuild" it. — Meredith, Medford The Oregon Department of Transportation is in fact planning to rebuild portions of roads through Harbor that were damaged by a sinkhole and a landslide. One side of Highway 101 through the coastal town was the victim of a sinkhole that opened on Dec. 13, 2015 because of a culvert problem. In the days that followed, a massive chunk of Shopping Center Road, which runs parallel to the highway, fell away into a ravine. A strip of asphalt separates the sinkhole and collapsed road section. ODOT expects to have Shopping Center Road repaired before the end of this month and hopes to have the sinkhole along Highway 101 repaired by the end of March, spokesman Jared Castle said. The combined repairs will likely cost about $4 million, said Chris Hunter, assistant manager of the ODOT district that covers Coos, Curry and Douglas Counties. The repair work will be funded by a mix of state and federal dollars, Hunter said. —Send questions to “Since You Asked,” Mail Tribune Newsroom, P.O.
