Bettencourt delivers for RV Rebels in tourney Maegan Bettencourt delivered the winning hit in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift the Rogue Valley Rebels 16-under ASA girls softball team to the championship of the 10-team Bash By The River tournament Saturday and Sunday at Redding, Calif. The Rebels defeated the North Valley Rapids 4-3 in the title game Sunday. Bettencourt provided a two-out bases-loaded single to score the winning run against North Valley. Janelle Cristofaro hit a solo home run and Kelsey Anhorn smacked a two-run double to account for the Rebels other runs against North Valley. Rebels pitcher Jenni Bittle went the distance in the championship game to record her third victory in the tournament. In the semifinals, it took Rogue Valley nine innings to defeat Humboldt from Eureka, Calif., 5-4. On Saturday, the Rebels went undefeated in three pool play games. Justine Bettencourt led the Rebels' attack with a 7-for-16 performance in the tournament. Other tournament highlights for Rogue Valley was Maegan's Bettencourt's home run and three triples by Tyler Sutherland. The Rebels, made up of players from South Medford, North Medford and Crater high schools, outscored their opponents 26-9 in the tournament and improved their season record to 15-3.
