Man allegedly maced woman, burned her with cigar Richard Wilson Monday Nov 20, 2017 at 4:53 PM Nov 20, 2017 at 5:11 PM Vickie Aldous Mail Tribune @VickieAldous Prosecutors intend to seek a stiff sentence after an Eagle Point man allegedly sprayed a woman with mace and burned her with a cigar in separate domestic violence incidents. Richard Drew Wilson, 25, has been charged with three counts of fourth-degree assault, three counts of harassment, one count of unlawful use of a weapon and second-degree unlawful use of mace. He entered not guilty pleas to the charges Monday in Jackson County Circuit Court and has a pre-trial conference hearing scheduled Dec. 4, court documents show. The Jackson County District Attorney's Office filed a notice it intends to introduce facts that could lead to a longer sentence. The notice alleges Wilson committed repeated violations against the same victim and has demonstrated a disregard for any laws and an inability to be deterred from future criminal activity. The notice also alleges Wilson committed crimes while on parole, probation or another form of conditional release from custody. The alleged incidents began Nov. 4, the day Wilson is accused of spraying the woman with mace, assaulting her and harassing her, according to court documents. He was arrested and later released from jail on his own recognizance with a condition that he have no contact with the woman, court records show. On Nov. 9, the woman was allegedly on her bed complaining of back pain with Wilson standing over her. She told police she felt pain on her back from Wilson allegedly burning her with his lit cigar, according to a probable cause affidavit by Medford police. Wilson allegedly told her it was "acupuncture and she wanted it," the affidavit said. Police observed a burn mark on the woman's back, the affidavit said. Later than evening, Wilson allegedly struck her twice with a leather belt, making her cry, the affidavit said. Police contacted Wilson and he allegedly admitted to burning her and striking her with a belt, the affidavit said. "He claimed he believed by burning her back and causing more pain, it would alleviate her back pain," the affidavit said. Wilson was lodged in the Jackson County Jail Nov. 10 with a $25,000 bail on one of the assault charges, plus a $25,000 bail for a contempt of court charge. He was still in jail Monday afternoon. In 2013, Wilson was convicted of refusing to take a test for intoxicants, driving under the influence of intoxicants and second-degree criminal mischief, according to court records.
