The entire town has closed down, including the school. What's up? — Curt K., Medford Well, Curt, to put it simply, budget cuts and bad luck. The Roseburg News-Review reported in June 2014 that Days Creek School District 15 was closing Tiller Elementary School because of a budget crisis. The paper reported that the district hoped to save about $200,000 a year by the closure, and that students currently attending the school would be bused to Days Creek Charter School starting this fall. According Larry Moulton's "Douglas County Schools: A History Outline," the school had first been opened in 1896 and was later absorbed by the Days Creek district in 1960. As far as the rest of the town, the News Review had previously reported in January 2014 that the Tiller Store — the only convenience store in town — had closed because of an illness in the owners' family.
