A portion of McAndrews extension opens A long-awaited link between east Medford and the city�s core opens to motorists today. Wednesday, the city announced its plan to open the McAndrews Road extension to vehicular traffic this afternoon. The road was opened last week to pedestrians and bicyclists. The extension, one of the biggest road construction projects in recent years, is expected to link McAndrews to developments flanking Roxy Ann Peak. It will give motorists direct access to McAndrews from Foothill Road. Though the extension will eventually carry traffic on McAndrews from Brookdale Avenue to an orphaned spur of McAndrews on Roxy Ann, the road now ends abruptly on a hill above Foothill. To stop motorists from driving off the unfinished road, the city installed barricades and traffic devices to control cars. Though the city completed its portion of the project � from Brookdale Avenue to Foothill, where a freeway-style overpass with on and off ramps connects to McAndrews � construction has yet to begin on the missing link to Roxy Ann. It�s unclear when construction will start. Developer Noel Moore, who agreed to build the upper portion of McAndrews in exchange for some 160 acres of city-owned land, is still negotiating for rights of way with land owners in the area.
