Sports letters KTMT dumps Giants Attention Giant fans: We have been deceived into thinking that the Giants will continue to be broadcast on KTMT-AM (580). The station's promotional ads have said that they will be bringing us the Giants again this year. Not so fast: Marathon's general manager, Bret Fox, has chosen not to air the Giants this year yet he continues to allow these false "teasers" to get our hopes up. The truth is that as of a week ago, Fox decided to can the Giants in favor of running the Oakland A's. The Giants have many more fans than do the A's, both here and in the Bay Area. The fans will continue to listen and sponsors will continue to buy air time for Giants' games. Besides, they are moving into a brand new ballpark and most of the games are sold out. It is not only a poor business decision to choose running the A's games rather than the Giants' games, it is just plain wrong. You can't tease your listeners into remaining loyal to your station by promising to continue to air Giants games and then pull the rug out from under them like this. The Giants are a better team with better broadcasters and together offer baseball fans of the Rogue Valley a better product. KTMT should do the right thing and honor their listeners' integrity and intelligence and air every single Giants game this season. Fellow Giants fans: please call Marathon's Fox at 779-1550 and tell him you want to hear the Giants games, as promised. -- Rob Werfel, Ashland Today's Edition : News | Sports | Business | Weather | Tempo | Classifieds Mail Tribune Copyright The Mail Tribune 2000, Medford, Oregon USA
