Accident victim's body found The body believed to be that of a Merlin man killed in a motor vehicle accident was found in a remote area Thursday, nine months after the man was reported missing. Human remains believed to be those of Paul Benjamin Ellis, 38, were found near Taylor Creek Road, about two miles south of Galice, some 450 feet below the road near the bottom of the Taylor Creek Canyon. A hiker discovered Ellis' wrecked car under a dense tree canopy below the road. According to the Josephine County Sheriff's Office, Ellis was reported missing from Secret Creek Campground on Aug. 13, 1998. He was last seen driving his 1990 Mitsubishi Montero. Extensive aerial and ground searches had failed to turn up the missing car. Police said it appears Ellis' car went off the road as it was coming down Taylor Creek Road. The car then apparently rolled down the steep terrain for about 450 feet before stopping underneath the tree canopy. There was some evidence that Ellis was thrown from the car, police said.
