Crater pitcher Janelle Cristofaro stymied the Black Tornado for much of the game, but North’s Beth Morrill and Corey Whitaker came through in the clutch during a 2-1 non-conference victory at Fagone Field. Morrill doubled home the tying run in the sixth inning and Whitaker sent North to a 3-0 record with a two-out, RBI single up the middle later in the inning. "Cristofaro shut us down early," said first-year North Medford coach Brent Barry. "She played with us last summer so we knew what to expect from her. Really I think we had only hit two or three balls hard all day. "Once we got on the basepaths we were able to do a little bit." The Comets recorded five hits and had taken a 1-0 lead by the fourth inning. Starting pitcher Kendra Strahm kept the Tornado in the contest for the first three innings before giving way to reliever Mallorie Hoover, who held Crater hitless the rest of the way.
