Main St., Ashland. Themed "Actions Matter," the event also provides a venue for environmentally minded musicians, activists and performers to share their passion for change through creativity. The Rogue Valley Peace Choir will sing songs of social justice and environmental stewardship from 11 to 11:40 a.m. Rogue Climate, a Rogue Valley organization committed to increasing community awareness and fostering political will to address climate issues, will present "I've Got the Power," a dance and sing-along to popular tunes, from noon to 12:45 p.m. Bee Girl will present “You Can Bee the Hero! Family Friendly Solutions to Bee Collapse,” an interactive presentation about honey bees and their survival that will engage all ages, from 1 to 1:30 p.m. Performance gymnasts and tumblers from FlipSide Studio will present action-packed jumping, flipping and capoeira, or Brazilian martial arts, from 1:45 to 2 p.m., and ScienceLive! What’s the Matter?” is a ScienceWorks exhibit filled with science demonstrations and hands-on discoveries and participation. Maraval Road Steel Band — a professional steel drum ensemble — will perform danceable music from Trinidad from 3 to 4 p.m. New to the celebration this year, a solar-powered robotic puppet will provide backdrop for the stage. The interactive setup of moving parts — wind turbines, tractors and bicycles — was created by students at Armadillo Technical Institute — a charter school in Phoenix — along with Rogue Climate and Alltrax, Inc. of Grants Pass. The finished piece is 8 feet tall and 16 feet long, colorfully painted by ATI students. Eco-friendly activities abound at the family-friendly festival. Kids can step inside a colorful, 30-foot, salmon-shaped storytelling tent and dress in costumes to learn about migrating salmon and forest animals. Returning this year are three event favorites — baby goats from Willow-Witt Ranch, FullMoon hula hoops, and Rhythms of the Soul community percussion. Kid Zone gives kids an outlet explore their creative sides with recycled crafts, cardboard villages and face-painting. EcoQuest leads young people on a self-guided, hands-on tour of exhibits, while Boys & Girls Club of Talent conducts games on the open field. New this year, Southern Oregon Skywatchers will share telescopes, binoculars and instruction for viewing the sky. Look for free well-water testing, along with a showcase of sustainable products and services, such as electric vehicles and bikes, solar energy programs, agriculture and green-building options. Learn about regional restoration projects, composting techniques, volunteer opportunities and more. Food trucks will be at the site, including Peruvian Point and Katrina's Tamales, along with baked goods from Four & Twenty Blackbirds and Little Shop of Bagels. Standing Stone Brewing Co. will have craft beer on tap. See how the celebration strives for zero waste, with a large crowd that generates hardly any trash. Take part and bring a reusable beverage container if you attend. There also will be a raffle for prizes. Admission to the event is free. See www.roguevalleyearthday.net for information.
