Public meetings will provide updates on Chetco Bar fire Monday Sep 25, 2017 at 12:33 PM Sep 25, 2017 at 2:14 PM The Forest Service will host four public meetings on the progress of the Chetco Bar fire in the locally affected communities of Brookings, Agness, Gold Beach and Cave Junction this week. The meetings also will provide the early history of suppression efforts on the Chetco Bar fire since it was first sparked by lightning on July 12. Officials will detail suppression efforts made in the first 24-48 hours, including key decisions made regarding firefighter safety, as well as the utilization of aviation resources. Looking ahead, a summary of the Burned Area Emergency Response effort and restoration plans will be addressed. Following the presentation, the public will have an opportunity to ask questions. Meetings will be Thursday in Brookings, Friday morning in Agness and Friday evening in Gold Beach. The Cave Junction meeting will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday at Illinois Valley High School, 625 E. River St.
