They just didn’t know when. The youngster took a big step toward that status Saturday during the Ducks’ 31-6 victory over Washington when he caught his first two touchdown passes as a collegian. Colvin finished the game with six catches for 45 yards. "You’re always pleased when a true freshman can help you out like that," Oregon coach Mike Bellotti said. Advertisement The 6-foot-2, 195-pound Colvin became more of a go-to guy after junior standout Demetrius Williams — the Ducks’ leading receiver on the season with 42 catches for 542 yards — aggravated a turf toe injury early in the game and never returned. "Cameron took advantage of his opportunities," Bellotti said. "He still needs some refinement in certain areas but he’s obviously going to be a great receiver for us." Colvin caught four passes on Oregon’s opening drive, including a 16-yarder for a touchdown. He initially bobbled the ball, but brought it in and then broke a tackle on his way to paydirt. Colvin beat Husky cornerback Sam Cunningham on a 7-yard fade route to the corner of the end zone for his other touchdown late in the first half that gave Oregon a 17-3 lead. Colvin is one of three freshman recruits from De La Salle High School in Compton, Calif. A fourth, Terrance Kelly, was shot to death in the Bay Area last August before he could don a Duck uniform. OREGON QUARTERBACK Kellen Clemens didn’t have a great day Saturday, completing 21 of 34 passes for only 134 yards. But the junior from Burns managed to surpass Tony Graziani and move into seventh place on Oregon’s career passing list. Clemens now has 4,613 yards during his UO career. He went into Saturday’s game leading the Pac-10 Conference in total offense this season with 2,017 yards. THE DUCKS WERE among the nation’s most penalized teams during the first month of the season, but they’ve been cleaning up their act of late. They committed only five infractions during last week’s 16-13 win over Stanford and had just five for 52 yards against the Huskies. Earlier this season, Bellotti made offending players run the steps at Autzen Stadium. Perhaps the punishment is paying off. OFFENSIVE LINEMAN Robin Knebel returned to the lineup Saturday after missing three games because of an ankle injury. The 6-6, 310-pound senior from Roseburg had been starting at tackle, but moved to center Saturday. Enoka Lucas, Oregon’s previous starting center, is sidelined with a broken finger on his snapping hand. Knebel aggravated his ankle in the fourth quarter Saturday and left the game, but Bellotti said he didn’t think it was serious. Another SOC product — Michael DeLaGrange of Grants Pass — started at right tackle Saturday and played most of the game.
