The latest shooting happened Tuesday around 2:30 p.m. at 130 Sheraton Drive in Williams. OSP Lt. Bill Fugate said a man came onto another man's property and shot the homeowner in the arm. The injured man was taken to a hospital in a private vehicle, and was treated and released. The shooter was found a short time later, walking down a nearby road. He was taken to Grants Pass to be interviewed by OSP. No arrests have been made in that case, and Fugate said the circumstances of the shooting remain under investigation. The first shooting came to light when a man showed up at Asante Three Rivers Medical Center around 7 a.m. Friday. His girlfriend had driven him there, and neither of them would tell police what happened, Fugate said. The man, identified as 35-year-old William Eaves, of Cave Junction, had been shot in the hand, forearm and thigh. He was initially reported to be critically wounded, but Fugate said he is expected to survive. Eaves at one point told law enforcement that a man named Josh had accidentally shot him in a park, but later admitted the story was a lie and refused to say who shot him, according to Fugate. The injured man and his girlfriend admitted that they'd been "awake for three or four days using amphetamines and heroin," Fugate said. Anyone with information on either case is asked to call OSP at 541-440-3333. State police are handling the cases because the understaffed Josephine County Sheriff's Office does not have any detectives.
