Man indicted in June 25 fatal collision Following months of investigation, a former Medford man faced multiple charges Thursday stemming from a June car crash that killed a 17-year-old girl. Anthony Paul Carlisi, 18, of Red Bluff, Calif., was indicted by a Jackson County grand jury on charges of second-degree manslaughter, third- and fourth-degree assault, driving under the influence of intoxicants, reckless driving and recklessly endangering another person. Carlisi told Medford police that he had smoked marijuana "in the last 24 hours" before his GMC pickup collided with a Plymouth Champ carrying three teens. The June 25 collision on Poplar Drive that killed Ashland High School student Traci Elizabeth Tedaldi - a passenger in the Champ - has been the only fatal traffic accident in the city of Medford this year, said Medford police. Initial charges against Carlisi of criminally negligent homicide and driving under the influence of intoxicants were dismissed on July 27, said Deputy District Attorney Tim Barnack. Medford police were asked to reopen their investigation. Because the charges were dismissed "without prejudice," they could be re-filed if police uncovered any additional evidence, Barnack said. Medford police said Carlisi - who was living in an apartment at 2101 Poplar Drive at the time of the accident - was driving south in his pickup when he allegedly made an illegal left-hand turn to get to his apartment. His truck collided with the northbound Champ driven by Medford resident Jonathan Ellis. One of the Champ's passengers, Michael Williams, 17, was critically injured. The Medford resident reportedly was receiving care at a private local hospital last month, and information on his condition was not available. Ellis, who was 18 at the time of the crash, had several injuries and was treated at Providence Medford Medical Center and later released. Everyone in the Champ was wearing a seatbelt. Carlisi was injured and treated at Providence before he was arrested. A 12-year-old passenger in his pickup, Skye Thompson, suffered minor injuries and was treated and released. Police were unable to comment on when or how much marijuana Carlisi allegedly smoked before the crash.
