Investigators were called to a home in the 600 block of North Main street just before midnight Thursday for a report of a child who had died under suspicious circumstances, Phoenix police Chief Kurt Barthel said. The chief declined to comment on the nature of the child's death and would not provide names. He did say no one has been arrested in connection with the case. "There are some unanswered questions involving the death," Barthel said. "We cannot release a lot of information yet, but the investigation is continuing." An autopsy is scheduled soon, the results of which could be released over the weekend. "We are taking the proper measure to investigate this case thoroughly," Barthel said. "However, there may not be any wrongdoing involved. We may not make an arrest." The case is being handled by the Jackson County Major Crime Team, which comprises detectives from the Jackson County Sheriff's Department, Oregon State Police, Medford police, Ashland police and Central Point police.
