According to Oregon State Police Capt. Kurt Barthel, the road near the junction of highways 140 and 66 was closed as water crested the road. No accidents were reported. Apparently, wear and tear over the years caused the breach, Barthel said. Oregon Department of Transportation crews set up detours north on Highway 97 to Highway 62, then to Westside Road, officials said. "There was some acreage between the highway and the dike, which slowed the water considerably," Barthel added. "It flooded an entire field before reaching the highway." Road crews attempted to block the water by dropping gravel along the road, but to no avail. Barthel said they would spend the night working to repair the dike and hoped to have it fixed by this morning. For more information, call ODOT at 1-800-977-6368.
