Klamath Union (4-2 SOC) dropped two to Grants Pass (4-2) to fall from the ranks of the unbeaten. North (5-1) and South Medford (5-1) split a doubleheader to keep things jumbled at the top. So when it came right down to it, Crater could ill afford to lose ground and the Comets (4-2 SOC) took care of business, sweeping Eagle Point 7-1 and 5-0 to stay in the picture. "It was just one of those days where we didn’t hit the ball particularly well," Eagle Point coach Keith Williams said. "We were missing our starting middle infield. Kristina Bateman, our starting shortstop, also competes in track, so she was over at the Crater Classic. Advertisement "Were also without Krystin Brooks, our starting second baseman, who sat out for disciplinary reasons." Crater jumped on Eagle Point (3-7, 0-6 SOC) from the opening pitch in the first game, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. Janelle Cristofaro had two hits, including a double. Pitcher Jenni Bittle struck out eight to keep the Eagles in check. Eagle Point’s Shannon Richardson went 3-for-3 with an RBI. In the second, Crater took a 2-0 lead in the third inning and added two insurance runs in fifth en route to the shutout. Crater’s Allesha Spradling went 3-4.
