Rep. Arnie Roblan, D-Coos Bay, chairman of the Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee, said he was waiting for some proposed amendments to the measure that would allow the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife to hire agents to track and kill problem cougars using dogs. House Bill 2971 is strongly opposed by animal rights activists who argue it is a first step in overturning a voter-approved ban on hunting the big cats with dogs. Hunting groups support the measure.
