Albertson rode the arm of freshman ace Ashley Bowman for a 5-3 victory in the opener, while Southern took Game 2 by a 5-4 count in 10 innings. The red-hot Coyotes (14-13, 4-2 CC), winners of seven of nine entering Game 2, jumped to a 5-0 lead in the opener and hung on for the win. Tiffany Kerns ripped a two-run single in the fifth inning to cap a three-run rally for Albertson. Southern (14-12, 3-3) brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh, but Bowman, who logged 12 innings on the day, struck out Carla Lillis to preserve the victory. Game 2 was a see-saw affair, as Albertson took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning on a Nicole Rollins RBI single. The Raiders, however, manufactured the tying run in the seventh - with runners at the corners and two out, Doyel popped a ball in front of the circle, where neither Bowman, first-baseman Kira Leaton, and catcher Tiffany Mathews could make a play, sending the game to extra innings. Williams went 4-for-5 with two doubles, a triple, and two RBI in the doubleheader for Southern Katie Theisen went 4-for-8 for ACI with two runs scored, tying a school record by extending her hitting streak to eight games. Miranda Gillaspie (5-5) took the loss for SOU in Game 1, and Julianne Cree pitched 51/3 scoreless innings to earn her sixth season win in the second contest. SOU caps the weekend road trip tomorrow with two contests at league-leading Eastern Oregon.
