The Raider women’s team, which enters the doubleheader with a 1-12 overall record and 0-2 mark in conference play, opens both nights at 5:30 p.m. against Northwest University on Thursday and Evergreen State Friday. The SOU men’s squad (4-6, 1-1 Cascade) follows at 7:30 against Northwest (Thursday) and Evergreen (Friday). The Raider men, who are 2-1 at home this season, have dropped five games by four points or less, with the only double-digit defeat coming at the hands of top-ranked Western Baptist, 94-67. Junior All-American forward Shea Washington averages a double-double — 20 points and 10.3 rebounds per game — to lead the SOU men. Junior guard Chelsey Brock averages 12.9 points per outing for the SOU women, which has played just one home game entering Thursday’s game. Advertisement Thurman second Raider to play in NFL contest Former Southern Oregon University wide receiver Andrae Thurman became the second Raider to play in an NFL regular-season game last Friday. Thurman, a three-year starter for the University of Arizona who capped his collegiate career at SOU in 2003, caught two Brett Favre passes for 12 yards to help the Green Bay Packers defeat the Minnesota Vikings 34-31 and clinch the NFC Central Division championship. Thurman, an undrafted free agent, was released by the New York Giants and Houston Texans prior to joining the Packers practice squad in October. Thurman finished fifth among NAIA players with 55 catches for 845 yards in eight games as a Raider. Thurman joins running back Dusty McGrorty as SOU’s first NFL participants. McGrorty received special teams action for the St. Louis Rams against Miami on Oct. 24. He has returned to practice squad duty.
