Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend October 8, 2005 Since You Asked Ashland pipe is part of bridge project On my daily walk, I noticed a large pipe (approximately 14 inches in diameter) in the bed of Ashland Creek as it flows under Van Ness Avenue near Oak Street in Ashland. The large, green plastic pipe (It’s actually 8 inches in diameter) is a temporary part of the Water Street Bridge construction project, according to Jim Olson, Ashland city surveyor and project manager. It’s used to "dewater" an area around where the bridge footings are being constructed. The construction disrupts the creekbed and makes the water too muddy to mingle with the rest of the flow, so the pipe drains the murky water separately. The piped water goes to the Vogel property, donated undeveloped parkland along the creek near West Hersey Street, where the parks department irrigates with it, Olson said.
