Local report Adams nominated to elite All-American team Third baseman Steph Adams of the Oregon Fillies has been selected a first-team All-American softball player by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. The recent North Medford graduate was one of 16 girls chosen nationally. She will be honored with the other recipients on Aug. 2 in Chattanooga, Tenn. Adams was a four-time first-team all-state performer for North and holds six season and three career records for the Black Tornado. She hit .568 last spring. She reached base 77 times and had a .968 slugging percentage. All were school records. Beginning hockey classes to start In preparation for the coming Rogue Valley Youth Hockey Association season, Learn to Play Hockey classes will begin Monday at The RRRink in Medford. The six-week session runs through Aug. 30 and costs $75. The fee covers skate and equipment rental. Classes will be from 6-7 p.m. on Mondays. The program is a skills-oriented introduction to hockey for beginners. Skating, stick handling, passing and shooting will be taught. Dance summer camp for North this week The North Medford High dance team summer camp will be held Monday through Friday in the school cafeteria. The camp is open to girls entering grades 1-8. Cost is $50. Sessions run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. A performance July 30 at 7 p.m. will conclude the camp. For more information, call 773-3117. Slowpitch softball tournament slated An Amateur Softball Association slowpitch state qualifying tournament, Hot August Hits, will be held next Saturday and Sunday at Southern Oregon Fields in White City. The tournament, for men's and women's teams, costs $200. There's a five-game guarantee, with three games played to determine seeding, followed by double-elimination play.
