I see people do it all the time, which makes me think it is OK. But for the longest time, I thought it was a no-no to cross the street at any old place. Please clear this up for me. — Myra M., Medford Cross the street wherever you want in Oregon — there’s no state law restricting it. But don’t think oncoming vehicles have to stop when you step out in front of them abruptly, police say. "You can do it, but you have to yield the right of way," Medford police Lt. Mike Moran said. As long as no traffic obstruction occurs, it’s OK to cross a city street when you feel like it. Since we’re on the topic of pedestrians and right-of-way laws, here’s a couple more for you: First of all, pedestrians in crosswalks not equipped with traffic-control devices have no right to step into the path of an oncoming vehicle close enough to create an immediate hazard. And at crosswalks outfitted with traffic-control devices, pedestrians are prohibited from ignoring a "don’t walk" signal and should not enter the intersection until the "walk" signal appears.
