Freshman Annie Chaney won at No. 1 singles and doubles as the Raiders defeated Albertson College 6-3 and finished third in the four-team regional. "(Chaney) really played within herself," Southern Oregon coach Gail Patton said. "She went for her shots when they were right and showed patience. Whatever her opponent hit, Annie had an answer." The Raiders finished the season with an 11-3 record. "The team played quite well today," said Patton. "It was nice to finish on a high note." Advertisement SINGLES — Annie Chaney, SO, d. Track and Field EIDE CAPS BUSY WEEK WITH PERSONAL BEST — At Eugene, senior sprinter Andrea Eide clocked a personal-best in the 100-meters to highlight the Southern Oregon University track and field delegation at the Oregon Invitational in Eugene. Eide, who was coming off a second-place finish at the Cascade Conference heptathlon on Tuesday, placed second among 16 racers in today’s race. The Brookings product’s 12.47 mark was two tenths faster than her previous PR and was No. 3 all-time in SOU history. North Medford graduate Emily Dunn also clocked a sub-13 mark (a collegiate-best 12.98). Senior Megan Heuberger placed second and posted a season-best in the intermediate hurdles with a 1:03.54. Crater graduate Trevor Palmer was the highest placer on the men’s side with a fifth-place 1:54.80 in the 800 meters. The men’s 4x100 relay team posted a season best time of 43.06 to take third place, while the 4x400 team finished second (3:21.8). Brynn Cogdill qualified for NAIA nationals with a time of 18:03.78 in the 5,000. Softball SOUTHERN OREGON 3-0, CONCORDIA 2-1 — At Portland, the 21st-ranked Southern Oregon University team eked out a 3-2 decision against Concordia University today at Delta Park before the Cavaliers scored in the bottom of the seventh for a 1-0 triumph in the second game. SOU (29-9, 13-4) scored all three of its runs in the fourth inning of Game 1 with Amy Williams (a double) and Carla Lillis (a single) providing RBI hits. CU scored once each in the fourth and sixth, but junior pitcher Miranda Gillaspie won her 17th season contest with a complete-game six-hitter. Southern, however, managed only three hits in Game 2, and Gillaspie, who pitched every inning of both contests, fell to 17-4 when CU scored the game’s lone run on three consecutive one-out singles in the seventh. Junior all-star Haley Varley accounted for three of SOU’s nine hits in the twinbill. SOU caps the regular-season road slate with a doubleheader today in Eugene against non-league foe Northwest Christian College.
