The officials named for the biggest contest of the year in this section of the state are: Referee, Bill Brian, Willamette University grad; umpire, W. W. Green, Missouri, vice-principal of Oakland, Calif., Technical High School; head lineman, H. E. Newson, University of Southern California, faculty member, Potter High School, San Francisco. It is predicted by a number of Medford followers of the fame that these officials will not be as lenient with violations and will make both sides play the game squarely and according to rule. It is reported that the Ashland football squad is undergoing severe preparation for the contest and that lectures on football are given while the afternoon is utilized for actual practice and that this program has been in effect for more than a week. All indications are that Ashland has taken on a grim determination to win and that the determination has produced confidence since the Armistice Day game. All Medford citizens who plan to drive their cars to Ashland and who have room for one or more passengers, are requested to telephone the high school building and signify their willingness to take members of the student body to Ashland Thursday at one o’clock or shortly thereafter. Tickets were put on sale this noon at Crowsons. The Medford squad under Coach Durno, are in strict training and will be prepared to meet the Ashland gridsters with a spirit of unbeatable fight when the whistle blows Thursday afternoon. ALL READY FOR GONG AT THE NAT TOMORROW P.M. Tomorrow night the stage will be set for one the season’s best boxing smokers at the Natatorium. Kid Tulsey, San Francisco fighter, is now in Medford preparing for his eight-round main event with Fighting Johnny Carlson. This fight promises to be a corker. Both Tulsey and Carlson are in fine shape, both are clever fighters and hard hitters which makes it difficult to predict the outcome of their mix. — Alissa Corman; [email protected]
