SINCE YOU ASKED Since You Asked: New turf is in the budget Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Apr. 25, 2015 at 12:01 AM Posted Apr. 25, 2015 at 12:01 AM » Social News During the last high school football season, I was at a North Medford game and saw a sad-looking turf field at Spiegelberg Stadium. It looked like it had tears in it. Are there any plans for them to replace it? — Jeff R., Medford Jeff, the turf field at Spiegelberg Stadium has since been mended and may be replaced entirely in the next three or four years, according to Medford School District officials. Last fall, after the football season, the district hired a contractor to vacuum up and even out the rubberized surface beneath the turf, realign and repair the seams, and check the “cushioning effect” across the playing field, explained Chief Operations Officer Brad Earl. At that time, the district also was informed that the field would need to be replaced within three or four years. Depending on the condition of the drainage system beneath the turf and the extent of the repairs, the project is estimated to cost between $400,000 and $500,000. So far, the district has set aside about $200,000 for the project, which will hopefully be completed "in the very near future, possibly within the next year or two," Earl said.
