South Medford girls seeded 16th in tournament, Crater second The South Medford girls basketball team didn't receive any favors when the seeding for the Class 4A state tournament was announced on Sunday. Despite a thrilling 64-59, triple-overtime win over Lakeridge on Saturday to secure a state-tournament berth, the Panthers were given the 16th seed in the 16-team field. South Medford (16-9), which was the 13th seed in last season's state tournament, will play top-seeded and No. 1-ranked Oregon City, the Three Rivers League champion, in a first-round game at 8:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Pioneers finished the regular season 20-3 with all of their losses to teams from California. Crater (23-1), the Southern Oregon Conference champion, was seeded second and will play 15th-seeded Tualatin (18-7), the Pac-9 Conference's second-place finisher, at 8:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The Comets already own a victory over the Wolves this season, a 74-51 rout on Dec. 29 in Central Point. In other games, fourth-seeded Central Catholic plays No. 13 Wilson; No. 5 Jesuit takes on 12th-seeded Tigard; No. 8 Hermiston plays No. 9 Churchill, sixth-seeded Willamette squares off against No. 11 Corvallis; No. 3 Beaverton takes on No. 14 Barlow; and No. 7 Glencoe matches up with 10th-seeded Springfield.
