Ashland, Grants Pass split doubleheader ASHLAND - Strong pitching was the hallmark of a Southern Oregon Conference doubleheader softball split between Ashland and Grants Pass on Saturday Grants Pass won the first game 1-0, scoring in the seventh inning. Ashland triumphed 2-1 in the nightcap, a game in which all of the runs again came in the final frame. In the seventh inning of Game 1, Grants Pass' Ashley Bellum doubled and scored on an error. The Cavers' Jessica Morton pitched a three-hitter, striking out nine; Ashland's Megan Beugli allowed two hits and struck out nine. Jenna Graven was 2-for-3 for the Grizzlies. In Game 2, Ashland scored its runs in the bottom of the seventh without a hit. Stacia Jones walked and Anna Harris reached on an error. They advanced on Stefani Talbott's bunt, then scored on a throwing error. Beugli reached base five of six times in the two games for Ashland (12-8, 4-6 SOC). NORTH MEDFORD 13-15, KLAMATH UNION 0-4 - At Klamath Falls, senior catcher Britney Hillyer collected two hits in both games, and junior pitcher Keri Sevano tossed a five-inning one-hitter in the opener for fifth-ranked North Medford (12-5, 9-1 SOC). Darcy Cordell and Laura Harken also added two hits apiece in the first game, while Beth Morrill picked up a pair of hits in Game 2. Conference-leading North Medford increased its lead to two games over second-place Roseburg and Crater. W - Sevano. L - Loetscher. SOUTH MEDFORD 2-2, EAGLE POINT 0-1 - Darci Byrne pitched a pair of two-hitters in South Medford's Southern Oregon Conference doubleheader sweep of visiting Eagle Point. Byrne, 9-5 for the season, struck out three in the first game - when she had her lone walk - and nine in the second. Mickie Conley scored both Panther runs in the opener. She doubled and scored on Amanda Blair's single in the second, then singled and came in on Byrne's sacrifice fly in the fourth. In the second game, South's Katie Kaufman singled and eventually came around to score on a passed ball in the first inning, and Jackie Chaplin doubled in Tarri Metcalf, who had walked, in the fifth. South is 11-9, 5-5 in the SOC.
