A Josephine County sheriff’s deputy responded Wednesday to a report of a burglary at a residence on Tunnel Loop Road in Sunny Valley. Among the items taken were coins and jewelry. A relative of the burglary victim then contacted local coin and jewelry dealers. Shortly after, a Grants Pass business called police and told them a man and a woman were trying to sell coins and jewelry at the establishment. After a deputy arrived and questioned the pair, the teen confessed to the burglary. The deputy then tied the teen to the Jan. 7 robbery of a Valley Cab Company driver. The robbery victim was called to the Josephine County sheriff’s office and identified the boy. The teen was living at the Sunny Valley Motel at the time of the robberies. A search of his room turned up materials used in making methamphetamine. Also found was an assault-style 12-gauge shotgun. Stephen O. King was lodged in jail on charges of first-degree robbery, theft and first-degree burglary. The woman with King at the Grants Pass business was his mother, Cheryl King.
