Does Boise Cascade Corporation’s pending acquisition mean OfficeMax may return to Medford? — Wilton T., Ashland This is a simple question with a more complicated answer, Wilton. While the $1.14 billion deal was announced on July 14, it’s still subject to Securities and Exchange Commission approval and acceptance by shareholders of both companies. Boise in recent months split its operations into Boise Paper Solutions, Boise Building Solutions (including the plants in Medford and White City) and Boise Office Solutions, based in Itasca, Ill. Corporate spokesman Ralph Poore says decisions concerning organizational changes won’t be made until after the acquisition is completed. The company won’t speculate about what may or may not take place. OfficeMax announced that it signed a 15-year lease for a 23,500-square-foot space at 1043 Center Drive in September 1994. The South Gateway Center store opened the following April, but closed in April of 2001. The space is now occupied by a gymnastics club, but OfficeMax’s lease is still in force and it holds four five-year options as well.
