Springfield takes two from Mustangs By Mail Tribune staff Aug 06, 2020 10:50 AM A A SPRINGFIELD -- Springfield started a three-run rally with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning in the first game, sparking a doubleheader sweep of Medford in American Legion baseball Wednesday, 3-2 and 9-2. After a flyout and a groundout to start the sixth, Springfield loaded the bases with three straight singles. A walk and a two-run single put the Timbers in front. Chase Costanti was 2-for-3 for Medford (29-16), and Thompson and Zac Ankeny each drove in a run. In Game 2, Springfield scored eight runs over the fourth and fifth frames to take control, and the Mustangs were held to six hits. Darin Marsh doubled and scored a run, and Bennett Thompson notched an RBI.
