ACCIDENT Medford man cleared in fatal car-versus-pedestrian collision Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Jun. 12, 2015 at 4:14 PM Posted Jun. 12, 2015 at 4:14 PM » Social News No criminal charges will be filed against a 23-year-old Medford driver in connection with an April collision that claimed the life of a California man on vacation, the Jackson County District Attorney's Office announced this morning. According to a news release, prosecutors found insufficient evidence of excessive speed, cellphone usage or intoxication to charge Cale Lewis McCoy with criminal negligence in the death of 64-year-old Rudy Gilbert Greenlee. McCoy struck and killed Greenlee April 26 in Talent as Greenlee was crossing South Pacific Highway near Arnos Road, toward the Bear Creek Greenway. Greenlee was dressed in dark clothing and had been observed staggering into the roadway, the release said. Talent police said Greenlee, a Sacramento resident, had been in town with a friend visiting the friend's family at the time of the crash. McCoy told investigators he was changing lanes at the time of the collision, and stepped on the brake in an attempt to avoid hitting Greenlee. The right side of the car struck Greenlee and McCoy stopped and called 911, the release said. Greenlee was taken to Providence Medical Center in Medford where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Investigators from the county's Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction team diagrammed the scene and collected evidence from the collision. McCoy declined to undergo a drug-recognition evaluation, but officers didn't observe any signs of drug or alcohol intoxication, the release said.
