Ask Lisa: How is slow cooker cooking time adjusted for smaller recipes? By Lisa Abraham More Content Now Mar 15, 2017 12:00 AM A A Q: Many of the recipes I find for the slow cookers make way too much for my husband and me. I have often wondered how much time is needed if I make half a recipe, but I haven’t been able to find an answer. Can you give me any guidelines? — Jane Shoemaker, Newark, Ohio A: According to consumer support at Crock Pot, a leading maker of slow cookers, when cutting a recipe in half the cooking time stays the same as when making a full recipe. The company also urges that for optimal cooking, their slow cookers should be ½ to ¾ full. With smaller recipes, therefore, you will want to make sure that you are using a smaller-sized slow cooker so that food is cooked at the proper temperature. — Ask a food or cooking question by writing Ask Lisa at The Dispatch, 62 E.
