She insisted on floating a whitewater river in the United States. The 23-year-old will be granted her wish Sept. 12 when she floats 17 miles of the upper Klamath River with a rafting crew from Rogue Klamath River Adventures, a Medford-based company. "This young lady’s dream was to raft on an exciting river in America, and they chose this wonderful river," said Wayne Zallen, owner of the whitewater firm. Advertisement "We’re really excited about it — this is the first time we’ve had someone from Poland coming over to do this," he said. Zallen’s company has been offering trips down the Rogue and Klamath rivers for more than 30 years. "This is an opportunity for America to show off one of its best whitewater resources." The picturesque stretch from the John Boyle power plant near the Oregon state line downstream to Copco Lake near Hornbrook offers Class IV rapids, depending on the flow. Zallen was contacted two weeks ago by Hanna Dzielinska, executive producer of the program. Dzielinska selected the firm and the stretch of river because of the firm’s reputation for safety and the river’s reputation for its whitewater and beauty, Zallen said. In addition to the winning contestant, the firm’s river guides will take a camera crew of four and Dzielinska. The names of the contestant and the show were not available. The trip will include a continental breakfast at the Greens Springs Inn and a lunch catered by Deli Down in Medford. "They want this to be a very special trip for her," Zallen said. "I’ve suggested they also visit Crater Lake while they are here." The group is expected to spend two nights in the Rogue Valley before departing for Poland on Sept. 13. The trip will later be shown on Polish television, Zallen said. In 1994, the upper Klamath was named a National Wild and Scenic River under the 1968 Wild and Scenic Rivers Act. It was cited for its outstanding scenic and recreational resources. In addition to whitewater rafting, the stretch offers visitors drifting through the high desert canyon glimpses of wildlife such as bald eagles and deer. Rafters also float past the remnants of Indian and pioneer settlements.
