The boy’s parents were arrested Thursday on charges that they beat their son, causing extensive injuries to his face and body, police said. At about 10 p.m. Wednesday, police were called to the Costco store in the 3600 block of Crater Lake Highway after an employee found the boy hiding inside the business, Medford police Lt. Tim George said. "It’s upsetting, to say the least," George said. The boy "had extensive physical injuries ... and he went to Costco to hide out." Police noticed the boy had obvious physical injuries including a blackened eye, where he had apparently been struck with a glass jar. Other injuries were allegedly caused when the boy was beaten with a belt and an electrical cord, George said. Police then went to the boy’s home, where his parents said the youth had run away. The boy was examined at the Children’s Advocacy Center in Medford and placed in foster care, George said. Advertisement Lyle William Walker, 51, and Terri Ann Walker, 43, of the 2600 block of Sparta Way were being held late Thursday in the Jackson County Jail on charges of first-degree criminal mistreatment and second-, third- and fourth-degree assault. Bail for each was set at more than $1 million. Second-degree assault carries a minimum prison term of 5 years, 10 months upon conviction, according to state sentencing guidelines. George said the investigation is continuing. A Costco spokeswoman said company policy prevented employees from speaking with a reporter about the incident.
