Aggressive serves pace Pirates The Phoenix Pirates dominated with their serves in an impressive 15-5, 15-2 conference victory over Hidden Valley Thursday night. Senior Kelsey Russell was 12-for-12 from the service line, including three aces, while sophomore Joni Mahon was 11-for-12 with one ace. As a team Phoenix (12-4, 6-2 Skyline) went 39-for-41 from the service line. The Pirates were aggressive with their serves, putting plenty of velocity behind them. They were also well-placed and that caused even more problems for Hidden Valley. Senior outside hitter Sutton Jackson had four kills and junior outside hitter April Darby added four for the Pirates. HENLEY 15-15, MAZAMA 0-0 � At Klamath Falls, senior middle Alice Meyers had seven kills and five stuff blocks to power top-ranked Henley to the victory. Erika Clements, Katherine Stock and Aleisha McElfresh all played superbly in the back row for the Hornets, now 8-0 in the Skyline and 22-1 overall. NORTH VALLEY 15-4-15, ILLINOIS VALLEY 3-15-13 � At Cave Junction, a late third-game rally boosted North Valley over the feisty Cougars. With the Knights down 10-2 in the third game, Megan Coston sparked a comeback with her serves to tie the game at 13-13. North Valley took the next two points for the victory. Junior Nicole Roberts led North Valley (4-4 in Skyline) with nine digs and seven kills. ST. MARY�S 15-16, LOST RIVER 5-14 � Lani Brophy didn�t let up from an excellent performance Tuesday night, going 18-for-20 from the service line with five aces to lead St. Mary�s to the victory. After being dominated in Game 1, Lost River made a match of it in Game 2. Senior Kristen Zielony gave the Crusaders the momentum boost they needed with a kill that hit Lost River�s setter in the head, knocking her to the ground. With starter Kim Hansen on the bench with a hip-pointer, sophomore Melissa Anderson gave St. Mary�s a boost with eight digs and three kills. LAKEVIEW 15-15, ROGUE RIVER 6-5 � At Lakeview, senior outside hitter Jamie Ruda had four kills, 10 digs and got Lakeview off to a good start at the service line in both games as the Honkers dispatched Rogue River. Outside hitter Jess Childress added six kills, middle blocker Kristi Albertson had five kills and setter Megan Albertson registered 14 assists and six kills as the No. 6-ranked Honkers ran their record to 7-1 in the Skyline Conference and 28-1 overall. Megan Albertson also went 11-for-11 at the service line. CASCADE CHRISTIAN 15-15, GILCHRIST 2-9 � Janee Johnson had five aces as Cascade Christian held a 93-percent serving average during an easy win over visiting Gilchrist. Kristin Salamone had six kills and Krystle Holtz served out six aces, while Whitney Brookins led the Challengers (9-3, 3-2 SCL) with 26 assists.
