Central Point police still investigating sex-abuse allegations against teacher CENTRAL POINT � Police are investigating sex abuse allegations against a Scenic Middle School teacher. Central Point police arrested David Andrew Clair, 55, on July 6 and charged him with first-degree sex abuse and harassment for allegedly abusing a 13-year-old student. The Jackson County District Attorney�s Office sent the case back to police in Central Point for more investigation before filing charges against Clair. Police began the investigation after receiving a report from the school May 5, according to Sgt. Tony McPherson. The girl, who was 13 at the time, alleged that the crime took place on school grounds, he said. McPherson said police also are investigating allegations against Clair involving additional girls. A computer teacher, Clair has worked at the school for more than 20 years. Representatives from School District 6 and Scenic Middle School could not be reached for comment Friday. Clair was arrested after his lawyer arranged for him to turn himself in, according McPherson. He has since been released from the Jackson County Jail, where he was initially lodged on more than $1 million bail. Clair is the second Scenic Middle School teacher accused of sex abuse in the past year. Tom Lees, a social studies teacher and basketball coach, was fired Nov. 16 for "unprofessional conduct." That was the same day he was arrested by Central Point police on misdemeanor sex-abuse charges involving a middle-school student. In December, he was charged with two counts of felony sexual abuse involving another student. Lees is scheduled for trial next month.
