Gallegos, Torres take home championships OLATHE, Kan. - The Medford Bulldog Boxing Club took three fighters to the Ringside National championships and came away with two title winners on Sunday. Enrique Gallegos decisioned Florida's Chris Rangel in the open senior, 147-pound final after a strong showing in the third and fourth round. Bulldog teammate Javier Torres also claimed a title with a victory over Jesus Cordera of Garden City, Kan. The 18-year-old Gallegos (44-20) used a flurry of strong combinations to frustrate Rangel. It was Gallegos' second national title and first in the senior division. He also won the Gold National Invitational crown in 1999. Torres (26-6), fighting in the 13-14-year-old, 125-pound division, out-powered Cordera in the final two rounds to claim his second national title. He was the Silver Gloves victor in 2000. Mike Wilson lost his semifinal bout on Saturday after an incidental head butt opened a gash in the third round. Despite leading on all score cards at the time, the 19-year-old Wilson could not stop the bleeding, leaving his opponent with a forfeit victory.   Mail Tribune Home | Ottaway Newspapers, Inc. | Dow Jones & Co., Inc. | Privacy | Contact Us Copyright 2001 Mail Tribune, Inc.
