The $250 one-way fare flights will operate Mondays and Fridays. Allegiant primarly flies a fleet of 166-passenger MD-80s, including those which fly routes to Las Vegas and Los Angeles from the Rogue Valley. Allegiant instituted flights from Medford to the Valley of the Sun back in 2008 after U.S. Airways Express dropped its service to Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix, but its flights have generally been seasonal. In 2014, there were no Phoenix flights. "I'm not sure why they skipped last summer, but I'm glad they're coming next year," Airport Director Bern Case said. "It's amazing how many people ask about Phoenix service." The Friday flights depart Medford at 7:53 p.m. and arrive in Mesa at 10:08 p.m. The flights from Arizona leave at 12:37 p.m. and arrive in the Rogue Valley at 2:52 p.m. On Mondays, the planes leave Medford at 7:45 p.m. and arrive at 10:01 p.m. The flight from Arizona departs at 12:40 p.m. and arrives at 2:54 p.m. Allegiant said the seasonal service will continue through at least Aug. 17 For reservations, telephone Allegiant at 702-505-8888 or go online to www.allegiantair.com . Separately, Case said runway work, which began in May, is mostly finished and late-night restrictions have been lifted.  "We're open 24 hours again and, if flights are late, they can still get in," Case said. "We're fully functional."  New instrument systems, center lights and touchdown lights were installed during the project. Temporary markings have been painted on the tarmac and permanent thermal plastic markings will be put in when warmer weather arrives next spring.
