Although Jenner has garnered much support during her transition this year, McGowan doesn't seem to be among the supporters. In a lengthy Facebook post, McGowan wrote, "Caitlyn Jenner you do not understand what being a woman is all about. You want to be a woman and stand with us- well learn us. We are more than deciding what to wear. We are more than the stereotypes foisted upon us by people like you...Woman of the year? No, not until you wake up and join the fight." Caitlyn Jenner is going on a speaking tour The actress was reacting to a comment Jenner made in an interview with BuzzFeed , in which she said that "the hardest part about being a woman is figuring out what to wear." McGowan later amended the post, adding that she's "happy for what [Jenner] is doing visibility wise for the trans community, and I'm happy she's living her truth, but comments like hers have consequences for other women." McGowan's negative reaction to Glamour choosing Jenner as a recipient of the award is actually not the first. New York City police officer James Smith has already written that he was giving back the Glamour award that his late wife received for her heroism on 9/11 because Jenner receiving the same award was "a slap in the face" to her memory.
