Updated: Snow still expected in area passes Friday Feb 24, 2017 at 2:51 PM Feb 25, 2017 at 12:22 PM Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune @RyanPfeil Another round of cold, wet weather is expected to blow into Jackson County on Sunday, with snow expected to accumulate on highway passes in the region. Some slushy snow also could fall at elevations as low as the valley floor. The main period of snowfall is expected from Sunday afternoon into Sunday night, according to the National Weather Service. The snow level is predicted to be at 2,500 feet, with 2 to 4 inches on the Siskiyou Summit, and 6 to 8 inches in the Siskiyou and Cascade ranges. "It'll turn into a more on-and-off thing overnight Sunday into Monday," meteorologist Misty Duncan said. Motorists should expect tough travel conditions on Interstate 5 at the Siskiyou Summit, the lower mountain passes between Grants Pass and Canyonville, Highway 199 in the Illinois Valley, the Mount Shasta area, Highway 89 east of Mount Shasta City, and the Cascades passes in Oregon. The wet forecast follows snow showers that dropped about 2 inches Wednesday in parts in parts of Jackson County, including the Applegate Valley and Ashland. Scattered snow showers are expected Monday, but the bout of wet weather should start to push northward Tuesday, Duncan said.
