Road work is in top 3 of priorities Does anyone know when the realignment of North Phoenix Road and Foothill is to begin? I suspect the reason the bottleneck on Hillcrest ... is being ignored is because the realignment should resolve these problems. However, these conditions present a serious safety hazard to pedestrians and bicyclists. If the realignment is not imminent, I would suggest paving at least a three-foot-wide shoulder to reduce the risk of a serious auto/bike accident. � Don S., Medford The North Phoenix Road realignment is "imminent," Don. Last month, the Medford Planning Commission reviewed the project and sent it on to the City Council for a public hearing. The hearing is scheduled June 15, barely a week from now. If the council gives the green light, city traffic engineers will complete the design and take steps to get the project off the drawing boards � i.e. obtaining any permits necessary and purchasing right-of-way easements. Construction should start within the next fiscal year, which begins July 1. According to Public Works Director Cory Crebbin, the proposed design includes 5-foot bike lanes and sidewalks on both sides. They would connect with existing bike lanes and sidewalks south on North Phoenix and west on Hillcrest. The project is one of the city�s top three traffic priorities. The other two � extensions of East McAndrews Road and Garfield Street � are already under way. The city issued over $9 million in bonds to finance the work.
