Leonard William Gotshalk, 53, of the 1200 block of Butler Creek Road, is scheduled to appear today in Jackson County Circuit Court on four counts of racketeering, a class A felony that carries a maximum 20-year prison term. Prosecutors initially charged Gotshalk with racketeering and first-degree aggravated theft more than two years ago. The charges allege he furnished false information to real estate mortgage brokers between 1996 and 1998, secured more than $300,000 in loans and then defaulted. Three private Ashland lenders were victims along with one based in Southern California, investigators said. One Ashland lender reported the crime to police, starting a six-month investigation in 2000. The new charges were filed last week to clearly represent transactions with each lender, said Matt Chancellor, deputy district attorney for Jackson County. An April trial date has been set in the previous case, according to court records. Gotshalk has pleaded not guilty to those charges. Advertisement Gotshalk turned himself over to police in February 2001, but was released the same day after posting $10,000 bail. In 1998, Gotshalk was a bidder in the sale of the Mark Antony Hotel, now the Ashland Springs Hotel. At that time, Gotshalk was a Klamath Falls cattle rancher who owned a home in Ashland. Court records show that Gotshalk has been sued in numerous small claims and civil cases since 1996.
