In Focus: Rogue Valley Genealogical Society Rogue Valley Genealogical Society member Mary Tsu will present “Managing Family Photographs” from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, via Zoom. Tsui will present options for repairing photographs, managing paper as well as digital photographs, developing an organization scheme and options for ultimate disposition of the photographs. The discussion will cover materials for managing paper photographs as well as software tools for repair, organizing and storing family photographs. Admission is free. November events Ashland Independent Film Festival — ‘Best of The Fests’ The Ashland Independent Film Festival will present a virtual screening of “Chasing Childhood,” showing Friday through Thursday, Nov. 12-18. This feature-length documentary explores how free play and independence have all but disappeared from kids’ lives, supplanted by relentless perfectionism and record-high anxiety and depression. Free play, unsupervised by adults, is critical for developing essential life skills: grit, independence and resourcefulness. The film explores how helicopter parenting became the norm in many communities across the United States and interweaves potential solutions to letting go and empowering our kids. The film features leaders of this movement, including former Stanford dean and author of “How to Raise an Adult” Julie Lythcott-Haims, biological psychologist Peter Gray and others. Tickets are $10. A Q-and-A will follow the film with the directors, Margaret Munzer and Eden Wurmfeld, moderated by AIFF Education Manager Jana Carole. The film will screen on AIFF’s Eventive film channel. Women of Botany History Presentation Lucretia Weems, Jackson County Master Gardener and member of the Ashland Garden Club, will present “Heroines in the History of Botany, 1650-1850” from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, via Zoom. The women who shaped the emerging field of botany led remarkable lives. They traveled, collected, classified and published seminal contributions to the field against all odds. Who were they? Film Screening Rotary of Ashland will present a free screening of the documentary film “Kiss the Ground” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, streaming online via Vimeo. The film stars Woody Harrelson and is described by the New York Times as “an optimistic climate documentary ...
