He struck the rear of your car and crashed while you drove off. After listening to him recount his experience, watching him tremble with sweat trying to shrug off his adrenaline while tending to his scrapes and bruises, I reminded him to wear a helmet. Someday I hope to live in a Medford where kids wear helmets and adults take responsibility for our youth. Perhaps next time, stop to see that he is OK, offer to call his parents and/or drive him to the hospital, and apologize. The example that would've set for this young man would've been more significant than any unpleasantness you avoided by leaving the scene. Perhaps you were unaware you even caused an accident, which would inspire cause for a separate letter. Maybe next time, or maybe the next generation. We can do better.
